Moon Roast Is Now B Corp Certified: What That Means for Your Office Coffee

The Moon Roast team is delighted to share that we have successfully received our B Corp certification. It's a milestone moment for the business, which we have worked hard to achieve for the last year. This article explains what becoming B Corp certified actually involves and why we think it is so important, particularly for anyone deciding where their office coffee comes from.

What Is a B Corp?

B Corp certification comes from B Lab, an independent, non-profit organisation that assesses how a business treats its people, its community and the planet. To earn it, a company goes through a thorough assessment covering areas such as:

  • How the business is run and how transparent it is with its decisions
  • How fairly its people are treated and paid
  • The difference it makes in its community, including how it works with suppliers
  • Its environmental footprint, from sourcing through to delivery
  • How well it looks after its customers

Businesses certifying from 2026 onwards are measured against B Lab's newest standards, which set a solid foundation from the outset and add further requirements at the three and five year mark. It's an ongoing commitment for us and one Moon Roast is passionate about maintaining.

How Do You Become B Corp Certified?

Becoming a B Corp meant reviewing how the business makes decisions across every aspect of our processes. Moon Roast has made a formal commitment to weigh the impact of what we do on our team, our customers, our suppliers, our community and the environment, against making a profit. An independent assessor then checked all of this closely and Moon Roast will continue to be reassessed on a regular basis to make sure we can keep our B Corp certification. Being successful took a real effort from the whole Moon Roast family and it's something we are all genuinely proud of.

How Many B Corps Are There in the UK?

There are now more than 2,600 B Corps across the UK, and Moon Roast is proud to be part of that group. It's also a group with a strong track record:

  • SME B Corps grew turnover by 20% in the past year, against a UK SME average of 3%
  • Their headcount grew by 11%, against 2% nationally
  • UK B Corps secured a median of £1.5 million in external funding, 18% more than similar UK businesses

Doing right by people and the planet and running a successful business tend to go together more often than you might expect.

Why Does B Corp Matter for Office Coffee?

If you're choosing where your office coffee comes from, this is where it becomes relevant to you. Many businesses now have their own sustainability or ESG goals to meet, which means thinking carefully about everyone in their supply chain, coffee included. Working with a B Corp certified supplier gives you something solid to point to: independently checked evidence that the ethics behind your coffee genuinely stack up. It's a small change that can strengthen your own sustainability story, whether that's for a client pitch, a report or simply your own peace of mind.
